Nine More Cases Push Ghana’s Coronavirus Cases To 161

Ghana has recorded nine new novel coronavirus cases. All the nine cases were reported in Accra, according to the Ghana Health Service. Find below the Ghana Health Service’s latest update As at 31 st March 2020, 15:00 hrs, nine (9) new cases of COVID-19 have been reported from NMIMR since the last update at 08:30hrs on 30th March 2020. All nine (9) were reported from Accra, three (3) of them travelled to Ghana within the past 14 days from Germany, France and Hungary respectively but for six (6) of them there is no history of travel outside. The Kumasi Centre for Collaborative Research (KCCR) also reported on tests from 77 samples including samples from 41 asymptomatic contacts of a case from Tamale Teaching Hospital and all are NEGATIVE for COVID-19. This brings up to a total of 161 confirmed COVID-19 cases in Ghana, including five (5) deaths as of 31st March from  admission for home care pending repetition of laboratory tests. With sadness and a heavy heart I announce the death of Nana Osei Boansi Kuffour  my biological  father. Nana returned from UK on 19th March after his yearly visit to the family.  Upon his return he was fine but began coughing on Sunday 22nd.  We arranged for his blood sample to be tested and he tested positive for malaria. We began treatment for malaria  but his condition got worse. We arranged to bring him to Accra to be tested for Covid 19 at Ridge Hospital on Wednesday. They informed us that his report will be ready on Friday but we should keep him in quarantine which we did.   On thursday night he had extreme difficulty with breathing  so we called the Ambulance service and informed them of his condition. We told them the patient has tested for COVID 19 and awaiting his results so they should come along with appropriate apparel. Situation Update, Confirmed Covid-19 Cases In Ghana As At 26 March 2020, 10:00 Hr As at the morning of 26 March 2020, a total of fifty-four (54) cases including three (3) deaths have been confirmed from the regular surveillance systems. All the three (3) cases that unfortunately succumbed to the disease were aged and had underlying chronic medical conditions. All the other fifty-one (51) cases are well; fourteen (14) are being managed at home and the rest are responding well to treatment on admission in isolation. They are awaiting their test results and will be discharged when the results are negative. The great majority of the confirmed cases are Ghanaians, who returned home from affected countries. Seven (7) are of other nationals namely: Norway, Lebanon, China, Netherlands, and the United Kingdom (UK). Ghana has recorded its third coronavirus death at the 37 Military Hospital as the wife of a two-star general falls victim. According to Joy News sources, her husband who has also contracted Covid-19 is in critical condition. The source said both of them have not travelled abroad for some time now but it is suspected that they may have contracted the virus when they received a parcel from the United Kingdom from a courier company. Health authorities are now tracing the person who delivered the parcel as well as other people who have been in contact with the two after they received the parcel. Ghana now has 68 coronavirus cases, according to an update from the Ghana Health Service (GHS). This means that 15 more cases have been confirmed since the last cases were announced less than 24 hours ago.
